Our Fur-st Post

And we are live!

Hi, everyone, and welcome to Savvy Paws – your one-stop-shop for all of your pet questions and needs. I wanted to take the time to go ahead and introduce myself, and my toy poodle partner-in-crime, and a little bit about why I started this blog. (This might be a long one).

Who I Am and My Plans for Savvy Paws

My name is McKenzi, and I am the proud owner of Savvy Paws, the blog. I always had an interest in starting my own blog but never knew where to begin. I knew how to create my own WordPress, how to manage it, and how to write (after all, my major was in Digital Communications), but I wasn’t completely set in the niche department. Then it dawned on me – one of my biggest passions revolves around animals! That was it. I knew exactly what I wanted to focus on.

After sorting out all of the logistics, I decided that sharing the life of a pet owner would not only be a great relation point for fellow pet owners, but it would also open the door for non-pet owners to gain insight and know exactly what they’re getting themselves into before they make that big commitment. In addition to that, I would love to offer information on what breeds are best suited for certain families and individuals. You may want a certain breed because they’re cute and cuddly looking, but that does not mean that they will work best with your lifestyle. This information will derive from my own experience, research, and actual pet owners from all over.

Looking to add a furry member to your family? I plan to use my platform to highlight shelters and adoptable pets in not only my home state of Maryland but also throughout the country. Helping animals in need is one of my top priorities.

SavvySpeaking of priorities, let me introduce you to my inspiration for this blog – my 10-year-old Toy Poodle, Savannah! I never truly understood the definition of unconditional love before I welcomed her into my family close to 10 years ago. I was young and really only had cats (including our other dog who thought she was a cat). Back then, she was my dog, my baby, and my best friend all wrapped into one – she still is! (Great, here I go getting all teary-eyed.) If you’ve ever had a pet that you can’t help but feel that crazy bond with, you know what I’m talking about.

Wondering how I came up with the name Savvy Paws? I bet you could guess, but I’ll go ahead and explain anyway. Savvy = short for Savannah, but also doubles as meaning “to know or understand”. Paws, well, that’s sort of obvious. But let’s go back to the word “savvy” real quick. Other than selecting that specific word because it was a shortened version of my dog’s name, I also wanted it to be known that I know what I’m talking about when it comes to the world of pets. After all, my goal is to help guide and create a community for other pet lovers (and those interested in becoming one).

If you’ve liked what I’ve said so far, I think we can make this work! 😉 If you’re a pet lover who can’t go one day without thinking about animals at least 5 times (no shame), you’re in the right place. I hope you thoroughly enjoy my content and consider reaching out to become one of Savvy Paws featured pets in the future!
